Ingredients

Scale

Salmon

  • 1 lb (4 pieces) salmon fillets

Teriyaki Sauce

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup water, divided
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Garnish

  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 scallion, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Teriyaki Sauce: Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, three-quarters of the water, minced garlic, grated ginger, honey, and brown sugar. Heat over medium heat, whisking until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to thicken.
  2. Create the Cornstarch Slurry: In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with the remaining cold water until smooth to form a slurry.
  3. Thicken the Sauce: Add the cornstarch slurry to the saucepan and continue whisking for 2-3 minutes until the teriyaki sauce reaches a glossy, thick consistency. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
  4. Marinate the Salmon: Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or resealable plastic bag. Pour the teriyaki sauce over the salmon ensuring full coverage. Seal or cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes or up to 1 hour to marinate.
  5. Air Fry the Salmon: Remove marinated salmon from the refrigerator and place it in an air fryer-safe dish. Air fry at 350°F for about 12 minutes until salmon is flaky and cooked through.
  6. Glaze the Salmon: For a caramelized finish, brush reserved teriyaki sauce over the salmon during the last 2-3 minutes of cooking.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Carefully remove salmon from the air fryer, sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced scallions. Serve hot over steamed rice or with preferred sides.

Notes

  • Marinating for longer than 1 hour may change the texture of the salmon; 15-60 minutes is ideal.
  • Use fresh ginger and garlic for the best flavor in the teriyaki sauce.
  • Be careful not to overcook the salmon; check for flakiness to ensure perfect doneness.
  • The reserved teriyaki sauce can be reheated and brushed on salmon for additional flavor and glaze.
  • Serve with steamed vegetables or rice for a balanced meal.
