Gordon Ramsay’s steak marinade is a flavorful blend of balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, and aromatic herbs that tenderizes and enhances the natural taste of the steak. Perfect for an easy yet gourmet grilled or pan-fried steak, this marinade adds a perfect balance of sweetness, tang, and a slight kick of spice for a mouthwatering main dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Marinade Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup Balsamic Vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 sprigs Fresh rosemary, minced
  • 1/3 cup Dark Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1/3 teaspoon Cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bag: Set up a large ziplock bag over a pitcher or bowl to keep it upright and open, making it easier to add ingredients without spilling.
  2. Combine marinade ingredients: Add balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, olive oil, minced garlic, minced rosemary, dark brown sugar, kosher salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to the ziplock bag. Seal the bag and shake well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  3. Marinate the steak: Place your steak inside the ziplock bag with the marinade. Toss the steak to coat evenly, then seal the bag and refrigerate it for six hours to allow the flavors to infuse and tenderize the meat.
  4. Prepare steak for cooking: After marinating, remove the steak from the bag and pat it dry carefully with a paper towel. This step is essential to achieve a good sear and crispy crust when cooking.
  5. Cook the steak: Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Place the steak in the skillet and fry until a crispy crust forms and the steak reaches your desired level of doneness, allowing the flavors to release and develop fully.

Notes

  • Ensure the steak is patted dry before cooking to get a perfect sear.
  • Marinate the steak for at least six hours, but overnight marinating will intensify the flavor even more.
  • Use fresh rosemary for the best aromatic impact.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper amount to control spice level.
  • This marinade works well with ribeye, sirloin, or flank steaks.
  • Let cooked steak rest for 5 minutes before slicing for more juiciness.
