Ingredients

Scale

Lamb/Beef Sauté

  • 1 pound ground lamb or beef
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 red onion (2/3 cup), diced
  • 1/3 cup pitted kalamata olives, minced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Feta Tzatziki Sauce

  • 1 (5.3 ounce) container fat-free Greek yogurt
  • 4 ounces crumbled feta cheese
  • 2 tablespoons red onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup chopped mint
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill

Toppings

  • 3/4 cup Persian cucumber, seeded and diced
  • 3/4 cup fresh tomato, seeded and diced
  • A few tablespoons red onion, chopped
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Fresh mint, for garnish
  • 8 ounces pita chips, store-bought or homemade

Homemade Pita Chips

  • 6 pitas, cut into 6 wedges each
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt or garlic salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Bake Pita Chips: Preheat oven to 425°F. Arrange pita wedges in a single layer directly on a metal sheet pan without parchment. Bake for 5-10 minutes until pita crisps up. Flip any wedges that brown quickly using tongs to ensure even cooking.
  2. Prepare Lamb/Beef Sauté: Heat olive oil over medium-high heat in a skillet. Add diced onions and cook for 5 minutes until softened and fragrant. Add minced garlic, ground meat, and cumin. Stir well and cook until meat is browned. Mix in minced kalamata olives and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Make Feta Tzatziki Sauce: In a bowl, mash crumbled feta and Greek yogurt together with a fork. Mix in chopped onion, olive oil, lemon juice, chopped mint, and dried dill until well combined.
  4. Assemble Greek Nachos: Arrange pita chips on a serving dish. Top evenly with the lamb or beef sauté, then spoon over the feta tzatziki sauce. Garnish with diced cucumber, tomato, chopped red onion, fresh mint leaves, and a pinch of pepper. Serve immediately.
  5. Optional Homemade Pita Chips: Brush pita wedges with olive oil and sprinkle with salt or garlic salt. Arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake at 425°F for 10-13 minutes, turning the sheet halfway through for even crispiness, until golden and crunchy.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground lamb with ground beef for a milder flavor.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute pita chips with gluten-free chips or crackers.
  • Use fresh herbs for best flavor, but dried mint can be used if unavailable.
  • Adjust seasoning of meat and tzatziki sauce according to taste.
  • Serve immediately to keep pita chips crispy.
