Ingredients

Scale

For the Filling

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 slices of low-fat cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup sliced pickles

For the Rolls

  • 8 rice paper wraps
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking the rolls.
  2. Cook the beef and onions: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is browned and the onions are soft. Season the mixture with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Drain any excess fat and allow the beef mixture to cool slightly.
  3. Soften rice paper wraps: Soak each rice paper wrap in warm water for 15-20 seconds to soften them, making them pliable for rolling.
  4. Assemble the rolls: Lay a softened rice paper wrap flat on a clean towel or board. In the center, place one slice of cheddar cheese, 2 to 3 tablespoons of the beef mixture, a small amount of shredded lettuce, and a few pickle slices. Fold in the sides and roll tightly, sealing the filling inside. Place the seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Garnish and bake: Optionally sprinkle sesame seeds on top of each roll. Bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes until they turn golden and lightly crispy.
  6. Serve: Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce such as low-sugar ketchup or a Big Mac-style sauce for an authentic flavor experience.

Notes

  • Be careful not to soak the rice paper for too long, or they may become too soft and tear while rolling.
  • Drain excess fat from the beef mixture well to prevent soggy rolls.
  • You can substitute low-fat cheddar with other cheese varieties to suit your taste.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding a small amount of mustard or mayonnaise inside the rolls before baking.
  • Serve immediately after baking for the best texture and flavor.
