Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables & Fresh Ingredients

  • 1 small head of cabbage (cut into thick slices, about ½-inch thick)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Meat & Protein

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 egg (optional, for binding)

Seasonings & Sauces

  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Dairy

  • ½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
  2. Prepare the cabbage: Slice the cabbage into thick rounds approximately ½-inch thick. Brush both sides of each cabbage slice with olive oil and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Make the burger mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and egg if using. Mix all ingredients thoroughly to ensure even seasoning and binding.
  4. Assemble the burgers: Take a generous handful of the meat mixture and press it firmly onto each cabbage slice, shaping it into a patty that fully covers the cabbage.
  5. Bake the burgers: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 25 minutes to cook the meat through and soften the cabbage slightly.
  6. Add the cheese topping: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and sprinkle shredded cheese evenly on top of each burger.
  7. Broil to finish: Switch your oven to broil and cook the burgers for 3 to 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and turning golden brown.
  8. Serve and enjoy: Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve with sour cream, mustard, or your favorite dipping sauces for an extra burst of flavor.

Notes

  • Using ground turkey instead of beef reduces the fat content and calories.
  • The egg is optional but helps to bind the meat mixture for firmer burgers.
  • You can customize the cheese type based on your preference; cheddar and mozzarella work great.
  • For a gluten-free version, ensure that Worcestershire sauce used does not contain gluten.
  • Leftover burgers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven for best texture.
