Shrimp and Mussels
- 500 grams shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 500 grams mussels, cleaned and debearded
Sauce
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) white wine
- 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
- 1 lemon, juiced and zested
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Prepare the seafood: Clean the mussels thoroughly by scrubbing their shells and removing the beards. Peel and devein the shrimp, ensuring they are ready to cook.
- Make the garlic cream sauce: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Pour in the white wine and let it simmer to reduce slightly.
- Cook mussels: Add the cleaned mussels to the skillet and cover with a lid. Steam for about 5-7 minutes until the mussels open up. Discard any mussels that do not open.
- Add shrimp: Stir in the shrimp, cooking them for 3-4 minutes until they turn pink and are cooked through.
- Finish the sauce: Pour in the heavy cream, then add the lemon juice, lemon zest, and chopped parsley. Stir everything well and season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to let the flavors meld.
Notes
- Ensure mussels are fresh and discard any with cracked shells or that do not close when tapped.
- White wine adds depth but can be substituted with seafood broth for a non-alcoholic version.
- Serve immediately with crusty bread or over pasta to enjoy the creamy sauce.
- Adjust seasoning gradually to avoid over-salting.
